DIAMOND EDGE DRILLING

Rock Drilling

Rock Drilling is a rotary percussion drilling method we can use to form holes up to 75mm diameter into concrete, brick, stone and other mass materials. The rotary hammer action of the tungsten drill bits pulverizes the material and the debris is cleared from the hole as drilling progresses by water, compressed air or a mixture of both flushed through the drill shaft. Due to the hammer action rock drills will not cut through steel reinforcement, but it is useful when holes can be positioned to avoid the steel in reinforced structures. We operate various rock drills, from vibration reduced hand held drills and frame mounted drills such as the EZ Drill systems, to 3 tonne self-propelled rigs.

Although not suitable for every application, the advantages of Rock Drilling over Diamond Drilling are much faster drilling speeds, it is usually much more cost-effective and there are no cores to retrieve. In addition, it is the method preferred by engineers for dowel bar and resin anchor installation as the internal surface of the hole is roughened, providing a key for resins and compendious grouts.
