Bank Vault Removal in Kingston, London
The brief from the client for this job was slightly challenging with no heavy breaking or vibration permitted due to elderly residents living in flats directly above and an opticians and accountants in the parade of shops to the side. Additional care had to be taken as two of the vault walls had been cast tight up to the exterior masonry walls which could not be damaged.
The vault measured 4.5m long x 4.5m wide x 2.8m high. The walls were 525mm thick, the roof 400mm thick, and it was all loaded with multiple layers of 25mm rebar, 32mm rebar, 40mm rebar and a few layers of steel mesh. These structures are always designed to be difficult to cut, drill or break into, but with the right expertise and equipment they can be removed with relatively little disruption.
We used track sawing and diamond stitch drilling to divide the walls into sections which we transported to the rear car park using a 2.5t forklift for removal off site by grab lorry. We used a BROKK 200 demo robot to crunch the roof, it worked well considering the excessive amount of rebar.
The client was pleased with the efficiency and safety of our chosen methods. They were also relieved to receive no complaints from any of the surrounding residents or businesses!
