New Travelodge Walton on Thames, Surrey

We were selected by Marshalls Building Contractors to carry out the diamond drilling, concrete cutting and controlled demolition package at this project to assist with the conversion of disused office space into a new 72-room Travelodge hotel. The majority of the work carried out was in two vacant floors above a Marks & Spencer supermarket and foodhall so special care had to be taken in regard to noise and waste water control. The bulk of our work comprised:

  • Forming new openings through floor slabs up to 600mm thick for new lift shafts.
  • Saw cutting, stitch drilling and breaking out with Brokk to form new trenches and openings for drainage in the 550mm thick ground floor slab.
  • Removal of RC plant room on roof using track saw and Brokk demo robot.
  • Track sawing and breaking to form various new door openings in the existing structure.
  • Diamond drilling over 400 hundred holes ranging from 52mm to 400mm diameter through the RC structures for services and ventilation.
  • Forming a large opening through the roof slab to allow lifting in of the pre-constructed bathroom pods.

All of our operations were completed in good time, thus enabling the other trades to follow on without delays. We built up a good working relationship with the main contractor which has resulted in continued work and another Travelodge to drill and cut in Birmingham!
